Hi,

Has anyone else had problems shutting down or disconnecting their 744T after
connection to a Mac?

After disconnecting from the by clicking on the dismount in the Mac finder,
the 744T screen doesn't always go back to the main page. Sometimes it won't
power down and I have to remover the battery to turn it off. Then it
complains that it hasn't been shut down properly.

Also the LED by the firewire port does not light when the 744T is connected
to a computer.

Software version 2.34, Mac OS X 10.4.10.

Thanks,

Ty Ford

Update your firmware version to the current 2.45 and see if it heals itself.

Hello Ty :o)

Yes, I've had this happen to me once or twice... I have a vague
recollection it was something to do with still having a window open on
the Mac for one of the 744T's drives (be it the HD or Flash card) even
after ejecting.

When I ejected the 744T disks from the Finder, the window (displaying
one of the drive's contents) was still open on the desktop. The drives
appeared to eject properly from the Mac's Desktop, but the recorder
didn't kick out of Firewire disk mode, & I could still access the
recorder's files from the window that hadn't closed. At the time, I
pulled the battery just like you did because the 744t seemed to have
locked up. In retrospect though, it would have been worth trying to
re-mount the drives using Apple's Disk Utility, shut the windows in
the Finder, then ejected the drives again...

I haven't updated my 744t software for a while... ISTR it's a couple
of versions back. Haven't had this problem happen since though; I
just make sure I shut all open windows for the 744t's drives before
ejecting, then eject, then the 744t kicks back into 'normal' mode....
worked every time so far.

As for the firewire activity light..... I didn't know there was
one! :o)

Best,

Jason

TY,

Sorry can't help with the Mac question, I use it on a PC only.

The green LED on the side of unit has nothing to do with 1394 port. The
only time you should see it flashing is when you load new software on
the 7 series.

It will flash 20 times or so during the re-boot after loading new firmware.

The current release version of firmware is 2.40. 2.45 is a beta release
and shouldn't be used for mission critical applications.

Hey Matt,

Turns out someone at the shop said it was for the link ports. So scratch that
one off. :)

Ty

I'll tell you something about 2.45 beta. It's the best firmware SD has
released! The BIG change for me is the fact that you no longer record empty
channels if you skip tracks. In other words you can record Track A and Track
D and get a 2 channel poly file instead of a 4 channel poly file with two
empty tracks taking up data space and confusing everyone. What this does is
make the track mute feature useful. You can now just set you input routing
to 1-4 assigned to A-D and use the mute function to mute the tracks you
don't want to record. No more last second frantic custom routing trying to
get input 4 assigned to Track B and input 2 assigned to Track A so you don't
end up with a 3 channel poly file with one empty channel etc. It's
funny....I buy a 788t and they finally perfect the 744t! :)

GO 2.45 rah rah!

I guess it's time to upgrade from 1.74 (i think).... It's been working
fine for me with an occasional issue of the machine not being seen on
the firewire bus... just re plugging and power on/off/on fixes
that.... I did just record 3 gb of two silent tracks last week...
have made that booboo in the heat of battle before.
